Flower Box Planters

We have these windows on our deck. Here is one up close.  Also? Just so you know. These were the best blinds in the house. All the other funky blinds we have sold on Craigslist and are slowly replacing.

Here is our deck a few days after moved in to our new house.  As Hudson would say, "mess Mama mess."  Yes, our deck and yard were a total mess and we have been working outside every night to clean it all up.  Well, mostly Marc works and I chase Hudson around.

So, we picked up these planter boxes at an estate sale and had an idea that they would look great on our deck.   Marc got to work scrubbing them clean because they were filthy.  We planned on just setting them on the deck but once we set them out we had a better idea. Window boxes!!

He sanded them down a bit and made sure they were ready for some paint.

Our new favorite paint!  We are loving this Santa Fe Turquoise and Vintage White and can't wait to try some more colors out too.

He gave a few brushes around the planter box and let it dry.

Next up he painted them with Vintage White chalk paint and then lightly sanded them.

Once he was done he gave them coat of Wipe-On Poly.

He used these OOK hangers to hang them up on our patio.  So far OOK is our favorite brand of items to hang stuff up.

We set up our patio table so a few people could eat outside on Thanksgiving.  Eating outdoors in November seems crazy to me but this is Florida so we can be crazy like that.   We planned on planting some winter garden seeds in the planters but didn't want our guest to look at planter boxes full of dirt so we got creative.   We planned on getting our Butterfly Garden planted in the next few weeks so figured we could get our Butterfly Garden plants now and tuck them in the planters for Turkey Day.  Afterwards we could just move the plants to the garden and sow our seeds.
Ta-da!

I think these planters look so pretty and can't wait to see all these gorgeous plants full of butterflies.

Some of my favorite Florida plants are Lantana, Pentas and Milk Weed.  I love that we can have this many blossoming beauties in our yard in November.

Two adorable planter boxes on our deck!

  2. Looks amazing! What plants are considered "butterfly" friendly? I'd like to put some out front.
